HomePod YouTube Music Integration

Although there might not be many people who own both a HomePod and subscribe to YouTube Music, the intersection of these two groups will be pleased to discover enhanced compatibility between the two. Specifically, YouTube Music has been integrated natively into the HomePod. This means that users can request Siri to play songs from YouTube Music even without the proximity of their iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watc

Setting YouTube Music as the Default

It’s become feasible to designate HomePod YouTube Music as your primary music service on the HomePod. By doing so, there’s no need to specify “on YouTube Music” every time you give a command to Siri. Even with this setting, if you wish to listen to songs from another supported platform, simply mention its name in your Siri command. For instance, “Siri, play Bad Bunny on Deezer” or “Siri, play Taylor Swift on Apple Music.”

To modify your default music service on the HomePod, initiate the Home application on your iPhone or iPad. Then, tap on the ‘More’ button, symbolized by three dots, and proceed to ‘Home Settings’. Navigate to your personal profile within the ‘People’ category and choose your preferred default service in the ‘Media’ segment.

Expanded Native Support for YouTube Music

The introduction of native support for HomePod YouTube Music on the HomePod is indeed a refreshing enhancement. Typically, HomePods have limited native support, restricted to services like Apple Music, Deezer, Pandora, TuneIn Radio, and iHeartRadio. However, users can still broadcast audio to the HomePod from devices like the iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Siri and Spotify on HomePod with iOS 17

Upon the release of iOS 17, HomePod users can ask Siri to play music from Spotify, but this requires the iPhone to be in close range. Siri processes the request via the iPhone using AirPlay. Although the HomePod doesn’t offer built-in Spotify support currently, this feature is bound to simplify the experience for many.
